eyeliner like this is bold, but i like it.
We’re trying something new. Despite everything I’ve read about banners and that they don’t boost sales we felt we needed to give it a try, considering we are expecting to have a new release out in a couple of weeks and wanted to try banners out and see if what people say is right or not. Since Blobster is published by Chillingo, they have been doing most of the advertising, but we need to get some own idea of what kind of PR works and what doesn’t. So we bought ad space at Toucharcade for 30 days and will be able to check the click-through numbers - see if it’s worth it. I’ll let you know.
Will be arranging a couple of contests this weekend. We still have some promo codes and T-shirts left. After that, it’s time to start planning for the campaign work for our next release.
Also, when not keeping busy with my “day job” at the university, I’m working with our developers on ideas for a new app. It’s a small utility app, not a game this time. We were hoping to be able to develop it quickly and release it before New year’s but it seems like that tight a schedule won’t work:(. Anyway, as soon as we’re getting a bit closer I’ll write more about it here.
So the other day I heard on Swedish radio that bulimia is actually twice as common as anorexia. Which surprised me, and it surprised me that it surprised me. Why is it a surprise? Well, because you rarely hear about people being bulimic, but you do hear a lot about eating disorders as in “this and that actress/pop star has an eating disorder”=she is way too thin (anorectic). I guess it’s just much more attractive to be in control - even if that means starving yourself to death - than to be a mess, i e binge eating and then throwing up in a never ending cycle. The point I’m trying to make here is: assuming that young women want attention and love (as we all do), how can they ever feel comfortable in their own bodies if we all feel more affection for them and pay more attention to them when they have too much control over their bodies than when they don’t? Admittedly, anorexia is more visible than bulimia, but still, it’s obvious that it is an illness that triggers our attention (and sometimes I think, even awe) more, if only because the underlying assumption that its victims have some strength and self-control. Excelling in remolding your body into something you believe is attractive is still some kind of achievement, I guess. The imprisonment of being a woman.
One of this fall’s milestones reached: today is the launch of Blobster 1.3 and Blobster Lite on appstore. Really excited to see if that will add to our sales. I’m twittering, facebooking, Toucharcade‘ing and trying to spread the word any way I can. Blobster has been a huge success, but the competition in the appstore is fierce and we really need to boost our sales. Lot of new stuff in the pipeline, and this is the first step.
People in the know have different opinions about publishing lite versions of iOS apps - some say it could boost sales, while others have the opposite experience. Since our position on the lists have dropped far, far below our former #3 in the US top games list (this summer), we felt we really had nothing to lose. It’s tough to compete with Angry Birds and Cut the rope, but our publishers Chillingo have been a great help.
Anyway, here goes. I’ll let you know the result.
And by the way there’s a Blobster HD (iPad) version and HD lite version too.
Hi! They will be held on Twitter, you can folllow @BlobsterApp so you won’t miss out - probably some time next week. See you there!
We have a release date of the updated version of Blobster (1.3) - a whole new world - and the new Blobster Lite, free version! November 1st is the big day. I’m preparing for Twitter/Facebook contests as I write this. We will launch some promotional retweet contests on @BlobsterApp and try to get more fans (cross your fingers, surfing around at eleven.se last night I realize I NEED MONEY to buy all that stuff that will make me look even more fabulous). It’s for a good cause!

Reading interesting research on gamer mentalities, concluding that boundaries between different kinds of gaming mentalities are not clear-cut, that “the majority of digital gaming takes place between ‘casual relaxing’ and ‘committed entertaining’” defying the stereotyped view on gamers that are either completely immersed or addicted to specific games.
